The southern Xinjiang which includes the Tarim Basin, the Xinjiang section of the Kunlun mountains and the Turpan basin. This is the hinterland of the Eurasian continent, the most distant place from the ocean. The climate is dry all the year round, and the largest Taklimakan Desert in China is located here. Since ancient times, the southern Xinjiang is a multi-ethnic area. The arts and customs of Uygur and Tajik are colorful which constitute a rich cultural landscape with a strong national characteristic.
